Readings from John Clarkes Poetry

Already acknowledged by her peers as one of the finest actors of her generation, Maggie Millar is now devoting her considerable talents to enchanting audiences with the finely nuanced subtleties of her RADA-trained voice as she enthrals them with readings from a wide range of sources from fairy tales to James Joyce, and from the wry comic poetry of Pam Ayres to the heart-wrenching pathos of Elizabeth Jolley.

SUNDAY 29th July 1:30

We all enjoy being read to, and being read to by Maggie is the pinnacle of that experience. As well-known poet Doris Leadbetter once said: “I would listen to Maggie Millar read anything, and I don’t exclude the telephone directory”.

Some of Australia’s leading writers, including Elizabeth Jolley and Carmel Bird, have been so impressed with Maggie’s skills that they have written pieces for her to perform.

John Clarke’s Complete Book of Australian Verse is a wonderful satire on both poetry and Australian culture. As a colleague and friend of John’s, Maggie is one of the few people he has given permission to read these delightful poems in public. Maggie will close our festival with readings from John Clarke.
